How do patients know when it’s time for hospice?
When it’s time to focus on living fully at the end of life, it’s time to consult the specialists at the hospice. Many patients are referred to hospice too late to benefit from the services offered completely. Generally, it’s time for hospice when a patient is expected to live six months or less, but some patients may live longer than six months.
Who qualifies for hospice?
  • Patients diagnosed with a terminal condition.
  • Patients who have decided to consult about palliative care.
  • Patients who want to focus more on living than dealing with their debilitating condition.
Who pays for hospice coverage?
Hospice coverage is paid for by Medicare at no cost to you. Expenses related to the terminal condition, including medications, Durable Medical Equipment (DME), medical supplies, respite care, and inpatient care are covered by Medicare.
